LightenUp Plus™?
Each LightenUp unit offers a different light output
and is a different size.
What is the light output of each?
The light output of LightenUp Plus™ is 30,000 Lux at a distance
of 6", 15,000 Lux at 12", and 10,000 Lux at 18".
The light output of LightenUp Too™ is 10,000 Lux at a distance
of 6", 4,300 Lux at 12", and 2,500 Lux at 18".
What is
Lux?
One Lux is equivalent to the light from one candle at a distance of one
meter.
What is recommended output for a bright light therapy treatment?
The recommended output is 10,000 Lux.

Do the units plug into
a standard wall outlet?
Yes, a standard three-prong, grounded outlet.
Do you offer a European
(CE) unit?
No, but you can use LightenUp units with a step-down transformer.
Can
I use LightenUp overseas?
Yes, in countries with the same electrical as U.S. or with a step-down
transformer in other countries.

Where
do you get replacement lamps and what is the cost?
Replacement lamps are available from LightenUp Systems at a cost of $35.00
for Lighten-Up Plus lamps and $30.00 for Lighten-Up Too lamps.
How do you change lamps?
Step-by-step instructions for changing lamps are explained in the Owner's
Manual, included with each unit.
What is the warranty?
LightenUp units are warranted for 1 year, excluding lamps.
Is there a
guarantee bright light therapy using LightenUp will work for me?
No, bright light therapy works for most people but not all.
Can I return
the unit if it doesn't work or if I am not satisfied?
You can return the unit at your expense within 30 days of purchase
for full refund. The unit must be returned in good condition in original
box.
Is there a discount if I purchased previously or if I purchase
multiple units?

Can I get a suntan from LightenUp? Does the unit emit
any UV light?
No, there is no UV light emitted from the device.
Do I need a prescription to
purchase a LightenUp unit?
No
Does my insurance cover LightenUp units?
Some insurance companies that reimburse for alternative medicine may
reimburse for your purchase of LightenUp. Call your insurance company.
If they indicate
they may consider it, file a claim.
How long do I use it?
Treatment times will vary with the amount of Lux as well as the individual.
At 15,000 Lux, average times may be 6 to 10 minutes. At 4,000 Lux, average
times
may be 40 to 70 minutes.
When do I use the light? What if I work the 2nd shift?
It is recommended that the light be used in the morning when you desire
to be wide awake, or at the beginning of your work shift, whenever
that may
be, in
order to be most alert.
How far do I need to be from the unit?
With LightenUp Plus™ 18" away or LightenUp Too™ at 6" away.
It can be at an angle. This will avoid directly staring into a bright light,
especially the LightenUp Plus™, which may irritate your eyes.
Where
do I use the unit?
You can do this at the kitchen table while eating breakfast or reading
your paper, or at your desk.
Do I use the light more than once a day?
Some people will use the device several times a day or will keep the
light on but be away from the unit during parts of the day.
How does the bright
light therapy work?
The light stimulates the pineal gland to produce Serotonin rather than
Melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that enables you to become drowsy and
sleep. Serotonin
is a hormone that helps you feel awake and energetic.
What if I overexpose
myself?
You may be over-stimulated and unable to fall asleep.
Are there any side
effects in using bright light therapy?
There may be if you are taking any medication that is stimulated by light.
You should consult your physician before using bright light therapy.
